Tvs apache rtr 180
TVS, the maker of the popular Apache RTR brand, released TVS Apache RTR 180cc bike last month, the new member of the Apache family.
The Apache bikes are racing bikes. If you are looking for a bike which is stylish and powerful at the same time, then this is the bike for you. The Apache RTR 180 comes with superb aerodynamic design. TVS mainly made changes in the engine which made the major difference in the performance of this bike.
The new Apache RTR 180 will compete with Bajaj Pulsar 180cc and Bajaj Pulsar 200cc bikes, Yamaha FZ-S bike. TVS is also planning to launch another motorcycle in India by the end of this year and it would start exporting its Apache RTR 160 FI to North America at the same time. The new Apache RTR 180 develops an impressive 17 bhp @ 8500 rpm, though the absence of fuel injection was a bit of a disappointment. I got a titanium grey bike for the ride and I was set to fly. Here are my observations of the bike - To start with, the engine of the bike felt much refined, the first twist of throttle really impressed me. could feel the presence of that 180 cc engine down there. As soon as I released the clutch the bike was ready to take off. Wheelie lovers will never get off this motorcycle.

The new Apache RTR 180 develops an impressive 17 bhp @ 8500 rpm, though the absence of fuel injection was a bit of a disappointment.
I got a titanium grey bike for the ride and I was set to fly. Here are my observations of the bike -
To start with, the engine of the bike felt much refined, the first twist of throttle really impressed me. I could feel the presence of that 180 cc engine down there. As soon as I released the clutch the bike was ready to take off. Wheelie lovers will never get off this motorcycle.
The pickup is really impressive, the bike’s acceleration and the response to throttling at lower revs were also good and even at higher revs the engine was very smooth without any irritating vibrations, it zipped through traffic with ease and the handling of the bike was better than the 160.
The load handling of the bike was also good, I had a pillion with me while I took the test ride and I didn’t feel the extra load weighing down on the bike’s performance.
The brakes did their job very well. This bike has the same petal disc brakes as that of the RTR 160 FI. TVS Apache is the only bike in the market as of now which has these rotar petal discs and TVS claims that “Razor-sharp braking is guaranteed” with these. This special shape of the disc brakes not only provide solid braking but also helps the heat to dissipate from the disc pads faster.
I was very much comfortable in applying the brakes even at good speeds without much fear of skidding. No complaints here.
The gear shifts were decent, no jerks or unpleasant grinding, but I think it could have been a little smoother. Apart from this the seating position of the bike is very comfortable; it’s the same as that of the RTR 160.
But since this bike has a higher capacity engine capable of generating 17 bhp it is expected to be much faster than the RTR 160 and therefore I would have wanted the seating position to be much more sportier and the foot pegs could have been positioned a little more backwards to add to its over-all fast bike looks (Like the ones in Yamaha R15).
In the end the overall experience of the bike was good and if you are looking for a bike which has style, power, performance then you can definitely buy the RTR 180. Add-ons to this bike are removable rear fender and the digital console which has the maximum speed registration and acceleration time feature.
The white color of this bike is really attractive and I liked the graphics on it as well, one more thing that caught my attention is the golden color forks which enhanced the look of the bike head-on. This bike costs INR 68,782 on road (in Delhi) which is around 2k less than its 160 cc FI sibling.
* TVS's Apache RTR 180 - The Superbike style rear fender can be replaced by regulation, more functional mud flap
* Engine undercowl of the 160 FI has been retained
* New RTR 180 emblem on the clip-on
* Tank scoops have RTR. emblazoned across them to distinguish the new machine from its smaller sibling
* Front fork pipes as well as rear gas reservoirs are painted golden on all RTR 180s
* Instrumentation generally remains the same as the smaller RTR, except for the new white dial for tacho
* Naked pegs for racers, rubber covered ones for commuters

Aerodynamic air scoops
Aerodynamic air scoops
the 2009 rtr range comes loaded with aerodynamic air scoops that not only add to the design but also ensure air is directed towards the engine unit to help better cooling efficiency.
Alloys
Alloys
light weight stylish alloys designed in a way a way that doesnt add weight beyond what is necessary .light weight but extremely tough these alloys weather the the toughest of surface and reduced weight ensure that you do not loose out feeling the thrill of acceleration every time you twist your wrist.
Foregd brake lever
Foregd brake lever
the apache rtr 180 employs a fored brake lever and gear lever set, which apart from construction.removeable rear fender
the super bike rear fender comes with replaceable and functional mud flap.
Over square engine
Over square engine
the rev happy oversquare, screamer unit is the definitive signature of tvs racing chancery and the ingenuity of itf engineers.this happy unit is acclaimed and very close to the unit that won the apache rtr 160;performance bike of the year from ps motoring, overdrive 8 ndtv car and bike awards.
Roto petal disc
Roto petal
disc front
apache rtr 160 was the 1st bibke to have pioneered rotor petal disc brakes and on any other bike it would have been a compormise.with an impressive diameter of 270mm,it aids sharp braking and the shape aids in faster heat dissipation from the disc pad. rear 1st time seen on a bike in its class, the roto petal disc on the rear wheel adds to the braking capaility and performance in the rtr 180.
Digital cockpit
Digital cockpit
the blue cockpit console packs in enough stuff for the technology geeks in you, with info like two trip logs, max speed registeration and time,to mention a few.

Poly shocks
Poly shocks
the rtr poly shocks take on every bump, and every pothole with impunity and ully them into submission.the poly shocks comes with a revolutionary technology where the rebound from a shocks transmitted from the road surface is dissipated as heat energy from the poly shocks, giving the rider a planted feel no matter what the surface.
Clip on handle bars
Clip on handle bars
the handle bars on the rtr are designed based on insihts from racing unlikke conventional tubulur handle bars.the clip on unit seen on the rtr range consists of a base unit.it presents a sporty riding stance that is aerodynamic and easy to contral.the clip ons are adjustable for4 reach as seen on in hi end bikes.
